April Ross

April Ross was one of the few female beach volleyball players who have won medals at several Olympics. Alix Klineman, taking part for the very first time in Tokyo's Olympics is hoping to secure her third Olympic medal. Ross hopes to win more than just her first Olympic medal. As she turns 39, it could be her last opportunity to claim the gold medal at an Olympics. Nevertheless, she remains convinced of winning top awards. If we do our highest or perform well, I think we'll be able to win that gold medal Ross said via NBC Boston. Therefore, I'm hoping to have a little bit of luck too. Ross was a Californian born in Costa Mesa, California in 1982. She grew up in Costa Mesa with her mother, father and sibling. Along with participating in a variety of sport, she also attended Newport Harbor High School. She was a basketball player and also ran track in addition to her indoor volleyball exploits in her time as a college athlete. When she played in the final sport she stood out. According to her bio, she was an outside blocker as well as a middle hitting volleyball player during her high-school career. She was named one of the Gatorade National Circle of Champions Player of the Year in 1999, for her performance. Her skills in volleyball earned her an Orange County Athlete of the Year award in 2000. Even though Ross and Klineman are in the spotlight since 2017, the former had already been a major participant on the beaches even before the pair formed. Actually Ross has won a number of significant tournaments during her time with two partners. One of them is a volleyball legend. In the period 2007-2013 she played alongside Jennifer Kessy who more recently served as her and Klineman's coach. Together with Kessy Ross, she was a major force on the international circuit winning a world title in 2009. The pair eventually picked up a silver medal in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty Maytreanor's legendary team and Kerri Jennings took home the gold. Ross Jennings was Walsh Jennings partner in fate after Maytreanor's retirement. They went on to earn the beach volleyball bronze at the Rio Olympics in the year 2016. Ross was a college player with the Trojans of USC prior to the start of her professional career. She played in high school and in years prior to hitting the beach as a professional. Ross's Trojans experience was amazing. She was a All-American as well as Pac-10 Freshman of Year in 2000 as a young freshman. In 2000, her Trojans made it to the Final Four. Her personal tragedy was a crushing loss in her sophomore season however she was able to return her place as an All-American. In her last two seasons as a member of the Trojans in the program they won victories by winning the national title in consecutive years. In 2003-2004, Ross was named as the most successful female volleyball player on the collegiate scene in the US through The Honda Sports Award. Ross played international relations as a student at USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, was never given the opportunity to see Ross' daughter blossom into an international beach volleyball star. Ross's mother Margie died in 2001 when Ross was still an USC sophomore. She had breast cancer. Ross is still awed by her mother who died. In addition, Margie remains a source of inspiration to her on the beaches and throughout life.
